Super-fun Secret Project!

We are bubbling with excitement to announce a project we’ve been working on. It’s super-secret at the moment, but we can tell you it has to do with one of our favourite creatures of the deep. We’ll be updating soon to show you a step-by-step of this crazy ride we’ve been on. We’ve learned SO MUCH from our process and from the people we’ve been fortunate enough to work with, and are so thankful to Lunch for having us on board for this project.

Here's our Dr. Strangelove Triptych

We were recently commissioned to do a drawing of Capt. Lionel Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley and, of course, Dr. Strangelove himself. This was serious fun, as I’d loved and watched the film umpteen times growing up. The portraits are mixed media; ink on paper, and digital painting.

Goldie is My Sunshine

Wow, January’s almost up. We’ve been slaving over an animation project; the sort of thing that pays the bills. But I was feeling a little down the other day and needed a pick-me-up. Came across a picture of Ms. Goldie Hawn and it lit up my life. It haunted my dreams. I HAD to paint it. The portrait is now hanging on our wall as a giant, glamorous middle finger to the January gloom. Watercolour and ink on paper. Painted on January 28th, 2015.

Happy Holidays!

We’re off to stuff ourselves with food and drink as fast as we can. Pray we don’t get bloat. Wishing you all happy holidays, and may you get to spend quality time doing the things you love the most.

Bad Girls Do It Well

Okay, so TV shows are a big part of our lives. We watch a lot of it while we’re painting. My latest obsession is The Mindy Project. So I painted this quick portrait of Mindy Kaling using my new Canson’s Mix Media Artist Series pad. There was a little bit of pilling on the paper, but as a casual pad, it holds up well for quick watercolour sketches.

Come see our work at Sadie's Diner!

For another whole month, you can feast your eyes on our collection of ORIGINALS and PRINTS at Sadie’s Diner. Our originals are all hand-painted pieces created for our TIFF installation, ‘The Magnificent Transmogrification Station.’ And to make you tingle some more, we’ve included a retrospective of our Humanimals project with ready-to-hang mounted giclĂ©e prints. Here’s a taste of some of the pieces you can see and purchase, IRL! Above: Vetruvius Cats (30″ x 40″, acrylic on canvas) is a new addition!

Catshrine Art Show at Sadie’s Diner!

Between finishing up illustrations for a book, leading stop-motion workshops at TIFF and playing some fantastic gigs with our band, we also found time to put on our first solo exhibition. Last week we held a reception at Sadie’s Diner, and we had such a blast that we spent the rest of the week lolling. The show is up for the next two months, so head on down there to see all of the original paintings that appeared in our TIFF installation, as well as a much-deserved retrospective of our... Learning to ‘Stop’!

We spent this morning at TIFF leading a stop-motion workshop for 35 students. It was great to be invited to use our installation pieces from digiPlayspace. We rose to the challenge of instructing (and conducting) the large student body to create some wonderful Norman McLaren-esque stop-mo, and the students’ reactions while watching the playback was priceless. They learned that the ‘stop’ in stop-motion means having to keep still, a lot…! Big thanks to our awesome students and to Joel at TIFF for the invite to have The Magnificent Transmogrification Station... Read The Rest →
