Scavengers and ‘roadkill’ unite. Creatures that typically disturb us or that we cast aside as being a nuisance have much in common with old people; their value in a consumerist society might be seen as negligible. We would rather not see them or think about them. But, ultimately, their disruption of our everyday activities remind us of the cycle of life and death. Respect. 6 x 8″ Ink and Watercolour 2015 The Secret Lives of Animals is inspired by the often unnoticed, unpredictable, and astonishingly adaptive behaviours of animals in... Read The Rest →
Painted this portrait of Idris Elba with doe-eyes. He’s obviously situated in a world where everything is just too unbearably cute.
Okay, so TV shows are a big part of our lives. We watch a lot of it while we’re painting. My latest obsession is The Mindy Project. So I painted this quick portrait of Mindy Kaling using my new Canson’s Mix Media Artist Series pad. There was a little bit of pilling on the paper, but as a casual pad, it holds up well for quick watercolour sketches.
It’s been almost two weeks now, and nearly 1000 films later, the little kitten scientists are still relentlessly churning out weird animal-human hybrids over at TIFF’s digiPlayspace. Thanks to everybody who’s helped out, joined in on the fun, and shared ideas. The installation is now in the hands of the lovely TIFF facilitators. You can still catch the installation until April 21st! Make sure to bring a USB key if you want a copy of your film, and feel free to post it with an @catshrine on twitter/instagram! If you... Frog Mission, 2013, Acrylic on Canvas, 12″ x 12″ As 2014 approaches, we look to a brighter future for all…frogs. Perhaps subconsciously inspired by that frog at the end of Gravity, ‘Frog Mission’ is part science fiction, part naive optimism, part social commentary, and all weird and cute. HAPPY NEW YEAR, everybody!

From time to time, this ‘lifestyle choice’ generates a lot of discussion amongst our meat-eating friends, or at least, it gives rise to profuse apologies when they order a big, bloody steak in front of... Summer always makes me wonder in astonishment how it is that someone (me) who’s ancestors came from such a hot climate, can be so incompatible with the heat. It’s about as absurd as an Elephant Shrew militia. In this painting, we incorporated the early 20th century tsolia and what we think is a Greek peasant militia uniform, with the adorable, wonky faces of the Elephant Shrew. Done in tandem with the portrait of a Cretan Sheep, we continue our study in using gouache almost like watercolour, but with the added... Read The Rest →
