ŽIŽEK and THE PERFECT DATE

Slavoj Žižek is one of my favourite philosophers. If you’ve never had the pleasure of acquaintance, I highly recommend watching Examined Life or The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology. If you find yourself craving more, he has a plethora of essays, books, and online think-pieces that will satisfy your desires. I created the above illustration yesterday, after watching a recent think-piece he did for Big Think. In it, he ponders the limits of online dating, looks at self-commodification, and paying full tribute to your superego. This culminates into a description of... Read The Rest →

Study of Cat and Sky

I love my mixed media pad; it’s completely not intimidating, unpretentious, totally approachable and very portable. When you’re worried about wasting precious watercolour paper on painting a whimsy, it’s nice to have something a bit crappier to paint on. Also, I’m addicted to bright colours right now. So I did this quick watercolour study of a sunset (from a photo taken at the corner of our street) and our cat, who was positioned in the setting sun of our dining room. Watercolour and ink on paper. Painted February 12, 2015.

Goldie is My Sunshine

Wow, January’s almost up. We’ve been slaving over an animation project; the sort of thing that pays the bills. But I was feeling a little down the other day and needed a pick-me-up. Came across a picture of Ms. Goldie Hawn and it lit up my life. It haunted my dreams. I HAD to paint it. The portrait is now hanging on our wall as a giant, glamorous middle finger to the January gloom. Watercolour and ink on paper. Painted on January 28th, 2015.

Happy Holidays!

We’re off to stuff ourselves with food and drink as fast as we can. Pray we don’t get bloat. Wishing you all happy holidays, and may you get to spend quality time doing the things you love the most.

Bad Girls Do It Well

Okay, so TV shows are a big part of our lives. We watch a lot of it while we’re painting. My latest obsession is The Mindy Project. So I painted this quick portrait of Mindy Kaling using my new Canson’s Mix Media Artist Series pad. There was a little bit of pilling on the paper, but as a casual pad, it holds up well for quick watercolour sketches.

Life Drawing at the Fringe Club

Thought it’d be fun to spend a nice summer day drawing at the Fringe Festival’s beer tent in Honest Ed’s Alley. Yesterday was the last day of the festival and it was HOT outside, so my subjects were few and far between, with the really big crowds showing up after the sun went down. I took my favourite drawing from the afternoon and turned it into a quick-study painting.
